John Huke, former Reeve of Somerville Township, County Councillor and City of Kawartha Lakes Councillor passed away Feb. 3 at the age of 84.

Mr. Huke will be remembered “as a passionate and feisty debater with a penchant for

banging his desk to make a point," says former Councillor Pat Warren. “He had a good sense of humour and I enjoyed working with him. He was a hard worker who represented Ward 3 with enthusiasm.”

Former Ward 7 Councillor Cliff White remembers Mr. Huke as a councillor who spoke his mind. He enjoyed working with him in 2001, during the first term of the City of Kawartha Lakes Council.

Current Councillor Pat O'Reilly, who called Mr. Huke, “the Hukester,” notes he was "a passionate councillor who always told it like it was."

Mr. Huke served as Reeve of Somerville Council and on the City of Kawartha Lakes Council from 2000 to 2006.

He also served on the Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes Housing  Corporation until his death.
